I have been on a bit of a hiatus, again, because real life got REAL! Work has been really, REALLY crazy. And then the kids were on spring break (harder than work being crazy!) and I’ve also been working on some other projects that I am super excited about (more on that coming soon!). But in the midst of all that I started thinking, Am I doing too much?
I was talking to my friend Anyelis (who I started Connecting Hudson Creatives with) and I told her I was in a funk, but as soon as I said it, I realized it wasn’t true. It was more so that I was overwhelmed.
I don’t think I’ve shared this on the blog, but I have two part time jobs – I teach two college writing classes two days a week and I work for a literacy non-profit organization the other three days of the week. So, technically, I work full time aside from motherhood and life (which is hectic in and of itself). But I really enjoy the creative part of my crazy life, and I don’t want to give that up :/ So instead, I gave up social media while I caught up with everything else.
Here are some articles that I read that really got me thinking:
So what happened while I stayed away from Instagram (which is my main addiction)..
- I got out and connected with my online friends in real life! I collaborated with the amazing Nadine from @milagrosdesigns and did a really cool Mother’s Day shoot that I can’t wait to share.
- We had another successful Connecting Hudson Creatives event at Lackawanna Coffee and I was reminded how nice it is to meet new people who are really positive and supportive!
- I spent quality time with the kids. We went to the Liberty Science Center, The Museum of Natural History, our favorite park, rode our bikes, played outside. Because the weather has finally been nice, I’ve made sure to get out of my house and enjoy it.
- It felt good! It felt good to just live in the moment and be present, and I’m definitely going to try to do more of that
I can’t completely give it up because it’s the only way that some people communicate, but I am going to try to not check it so often. We’ll see how that goes…
