Like most teachers, the countdown to summer for me began right after spring break! I have already started thinking about places to go and what I plan on doing with the boys. If you are from New Jersey or coming here for a getaway, you might be overwhelmed by the overload of great cities the state has to offer. Over the years of living here, I have visited a few cities and I definitely have my favorites along with some I can’t wait to visit. Here they are:
Located in the northern New Jersey shore area, Long Branch is a fantastic spot for surfing, catching rays and exploring the town. Long Branch is known for its new shops and restaurants at Pier Village and has created a lot of talk all over town! While Pier Village and the beach are the main attractions at Long Branch, there are plenty of other things to do while you are there in order to have a great trip! Long Branch is often overlooked by tourists, but it really does have a lot to offer. This summer, make sure to check out Thursday by the Sea, which is a free concert series! If you are a music lover, there is also the Long Branch Jazz and Blues Festival each August.
If you are looking for a charming seaside town, look no further than Cape May! If you picture the televised “Jersey Shore,” you are way off base with this one. Cape May houses about 600 Victorian buildings, making the entire city a National Historical District, adding a lot of charm to the city. Of course, the beaches in Cape May are always available, but it holds plenty of other attractions, as well. A few other things to do in Cape May:
Cape May Lighthouse: The Lighthouse which opened in 1988 has held over 2.5 million visitors. Admission is $8 or $5 for children.
Willow Creek Winery: Willow Creek Winery offers wine tastings starting at $10. Along with the tastings, they have a tapas menu to pair with the wine and also host many events. The winery is open at 11am, daily.
Cape May Food Tours: Are you a foodie looking for an award winning food tour? If so, this is your cup of tea! Cape May Food Tours offers two award-winning tours for New Jersey visitors starting at $71/pp.
